Incorporated in 1712, New Milford is steeped in history,
including some of its homes being used as part of the
Underground Railroad. Nestled along the eastern
shores of Candlewood Lake, New Milford is a former
farming community and offers extensive recreational
opportunities as well as a strong commitment to the
arts. New Milford has grown over the
years to a population of about 28,000 residents.
Being the southernmost town in Litchfield County, it has
come to be known as The Gateway to Litchfield County.
